With Euro 2008 (and soccer) now behind me, I am now focusing my sports mind on the upcoming college football season. You can see The Joe Poe Preseason rankings on the left, which will update regularly as the season approaches.
This season seems a little more exciting than usual. BYU is considered by most as the favorite in the Mountain West Conference, and they have a legitimate shot at a BCS bid. Of course, there are twelve games to be played so I find it difficult to get myself caught up in the hype. But the two-time defending champions return virtually their entire offense. Unfortunately for the cougars, they also have to replace a large chunk of their defense. But I hope that they can fill in the holes adequately.

To add fuel to the fire, the University of Utah is also expected to field a strong squad this year. They played well last year despite a number of injuries to star players, and now those guys are back this year. Of course, if Utah goes undefeated, they should also have a claim to a BCS bid. So the stakes could be much higher than ever before when the Rivalry Game approaches this year. It is not too far-fetched to say that if both teams go into their November clash undefeated, that the winner would have a chance to possibly play in the championship game (maybe I'm smoking here, but I think it would likely be deserved).
So enjoy the preseason rankings and my occasional commentary. Preseason prediction will be out shortly as well.
